How the test works
Tech Mahindra runs a MULTI-STAGE automated OA, not a single fixed test, and the exact layout varies by drive (campus vs off-campus) and year - so treat the numbers below as typical, not guaranteed. Current 2025-26 cycle: the OA proper is 3 automated rounds before interviews - (1) Online Aptitude Test [Logical Reasoning + Quantitative Aptitude + an Essay/Story-writing task; some campuses add a 10-12Q Verbal/English section], (2) Technical + Psychometric Test [~24 programming/CS MCQs + 2 'Automata Fix' coding questions where ~70% of the code is pre-written and you complete/debug the remaining ~30%, plus a personality/psychometric questionnaire], and (3) an AI-Based Communication Assessment (SVAR-style spoken-English test scoring pronunciation, fluency, grammar, reading-aloud and listening). Each round is an ELIMINATION gate. These are followed by a Technical Interview and an HR Interview (interviews are NOT part of the OA), and top scorers may be offered an optional 'SuperCoder' challenge for a higher package. Notable recent CHANGE vs older years: the AI voice/communication round is the key newer addition, and drives increasingly use remote AI-proctoring (webcam + mic + ~2 Mbps mandatory). Reported VARIANCE to be aware of: (a) some off-campus / NQT-style drives compress everything into a single ~90-min, 50-60-question test instead of the staged format; (b) negative marking is reported for the aptitude in some 2024-25 drives, while other drives/sources report NO negative marking - treat it as drive-dependent and confirm on your notification; (c) per-section counts/timings (12+12 MCQs @ ~15 min each, essay ~15-25 min, coding ~45 min) are typical but not fixed; questions/sections usually cannot be revisited once answered. Package commonly ~3.25 LPA, rising to ~5.5 LPA on clearing higher rounds; a ~Rs 1 lakh / 2-year service bond is generally applicable.
What to prep
- Quantitative aptitude: percentages, profit & loss, time-speed-distance, time & work, ratio/averages, probability, and data interpretation
- Logical reasoning: number/letter series, coding-decoding, analogies, blood relations, directions, seating arrangement, syllogisms
- Essay / story writing: practice ~200-word essays in ~15 min with clear structure and clean grammar (a real graded section, not filler)
- Automata Fix coding: practice READING and debugging/completing partially-written code (fix the missing ~30%) in C/C++/Java/Python - not full-scratch problem solving
- CS fundamentals for the technical MCQs: OOP, DBMS & SQL, data structures, OS, computer networks, and pseudocode/output-prediction
- Spoken English for the AI communication round: pronunciation, fluency, reading aloud, and listening comprehension (SVAR-style) - rehearse speaking clearly into a mic
- Verbal/English MCQs (campus-dependent): grammar, error spotting, sentence correction, synonyms/antonyms, reading comprehension
- Psychometric/personality test: answer consistently and honestly (avoid contradictory responses)
Cut-offs & eligibility (indicative)
No official cutoff is published by Tech Mahindra. Older combined-test documentation cites a ~70% sectional AND overall cutoff for the aptitude test; recent staged drives instead treat each round as a pass/fail elimination gate with no publicly confirmed numeric threshold. This is separate from ACADEMIC eligibility, which is typically 60-70% (or equivalent CGPA, no rounding up) in 10th, 12th and graduation, no active backlogs, max ~1 year education gap, full-time degree (B.E./B.Tech/MCA/M.Sc, eligible branches; 2024-2026 batches). Do not treat any single cutoff figure as authoritative - it varies by drive.
