How the test works
Mphasis runs its fresher/campus first round as an online assessment on the AMCAT platform (Aspiring Minds, now SHL India). It is MCQ-driven with 4 core modules - Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Verbal/English Ability, and Computer Programming (MCQ) - and many drives append a short coding round (1-2 problems in C/C++/Java, sometimes AMCAT 'Automata' error-fix/code-reuse tasks). Some AMCAT configurations also add an 'Attention to Detail' module. HOW IT WORKS: AMCAT is adaptive and section-locked - question difficulty adjusts to your answers, you generally cannot skip or go back within a section, and there is usually no negative marking. Difficulty runs easy-moderate on aptitude and moderate on coding/programming. ON THE NUMBERS: the single most-quoted figure on prep sites is '95 questions in 120 minutes,' but this is a long-standing aggregate figure that has been copy-pasted for years; more careful/recent sources (and AMCAT itself) state that exact per-section question counts and timings follow AMCAT's current configuration and change between drives. Reported totals in the wild range roughly 90-120 minutes with anywhere from ~25 to ~95 questions depending on whether the coding round is bundled in - so treat any per-section count as indicative, not fixed. FLOW AFTER OA: optional Group Discussion (college-dependent) -> Technical interview (projects, DSA, DBMS/OS, sometimes pen-and-paper code) -> HR interview. Typical fresher roles: Associate Software Engineer / Associate Test Engineer. Eligibility commonly required: 60% (or 6.0 CGPA) across 10th, 12th and graduation, no active backlogs, from BE/BTech/ME/MTech/MCA/MSc (CS/IT/ECE/EEE/Telecom).
What to prep
- Quantitative aptitude core: number system, LCM/HCF, percentages, profit & loss, ratio & proportion, time-speed-distance, time & work, averages, SI/CI, probability, permutation & combination
- Logical reasoning: coding-decoding, series, blood relations, directions, syllogisms, seating arrangement, analogies, statement-conclusion
- Verbal/English: synonyms/antonyms, sentence correction & error spotting, reading comprehension, para-jumbles, contextual vocabulary
- Computer Programming MCQs: C/C++/Java output & error-finding, OOPs, basic DSA (arrays, strings, linked lists), DBMS/SQL basics, OS basics
- Coding: be fluent in ONE of C/C++/Java; drill easy-to-moderate problems on strings, digits/numbers, pattern printing and simple DSA
- Practice AMCAT-style adaptive, no-go-back mock tests (PrepInsta / FACE Prep) to get used to the format, section locking and time pressure
Cut-offs & eligibility (indicative)
Not officially published by Mphasis. Sectional and overall cutoffs vary by drive, college and role; prep/aggregator sites do not report a reliable fixed cutoff. Practically, you must clear each AMCAT module at its (undisclosed) threshold to advance - do not rely on any specific number quoted online.
