How the test works
CURRENT (2025-26 cycle): HCLTech's mainstream fresher/engineering hiring now runs through the AMP program (Ascend, Momentum, Polaris) - a single merit-based online assessment where your score decides which tier/package you enter: base entry (Ascend, ~Rs 4.5 LPA; ~Rs 3.75 LPA at New Vistas locations), with the top performers upgraded via a further skill assessment to Momentum (~Rs 6 LPA) or Polaris (~Rs 10 LPA). This tiered structure is the notable recent change vs older flat GET drives. THREE-ROUND FLOW (very consistent across sources): (1) Online Assessment -> (2) Technical Interview (1:1, ~30-45 min: DSA, OOPs, OS, DBMS, resume projects) -> (3) HR Interview (~20-30 min: communication, relocation willingness, fit). Clearing each round is required to advance. ONLINE TEST SHAPE: An aptitude/MCQ test of four sections - Quantitative, Logical Reasoning, Verbal, and Technical - most sources describe 15 questions per section (~60 Q in ~60 min), each section individually timed with no negative marking. NOTE A DISCREPANCY: several secondary/coaching pages state '65 questions in 65 minutes', which is inconsistent with 4x15=60; the 60Q/60min structure is the better-corroborated one (FACE Prep, PrepInsta, GfG), so treat exact count as ~60-65. Engineering/coding roles add a separate CODING round of 1-2 problems; reported durations vary widely by drive/platform (~20 min in some accounts, ~45-90 min in others), solvable in C/C++/Java/Python. The test is delivered on HCLTech's own platform or via third-party engines (AMCAT / CoCubes), so exact UI, section order, and timing differ by drive. IMPORTANT SCOPING: This describes the engineering-graduate (GET/AMP) track. HCLTech TechBee is a SEPARATE early-career program for 12th-pass / diploma students (different, more basic cognitive+English assessment) - do not conflate the two. HCLTech also runs a separate PREMIUM/elite AI-focused track for Tier-1 colleges (IITs/NITs/BITS etc.) with a tougher bar and much higher packages (~Rs 18-22 LPA). Structure genuinely varies by year, role, college tier, and location, so numbers above are typical-case, not universal.
What to prep
- Quantitative aptitude: number system, HCF/LCM, percentages, ratio & proportion, profit & loss, time-speed-distance, time & work, probability, permutations & combinations, and data interpretation (all ~10+2 level)
- Logical reasoning: series, coding-decoding, blood relations, puzzles/seating, data sufficiency, analogies, statement-conclusion
- Verbal ability: reading comprehension, grammar, sentence correction, error spotting, synonyms/antonyms
- Technical MCQ: C/C++/Java basics, data structures, OOPs, DBMS & SQL, operating systems, computer fundamentals
- Coding: practice timed 1-2 problem sets on arrays, strings, sorting/searching, recursion, basic DP, and simple SQL queries in one comfortable language
- Speed & sectional strategy: with per-section timers and a sectional cutoff, avoid getting stuck - aim to comfortably clear each of the four sections rather than maxing one
- Interview prep: solid DSA + core CS (OS/DBMS/OOPs), be able to defend resume projects, and prepare clear HR answers on communication and relocation willingness
- Use company-specific banks (PrepInsta, FACE Prep, GeeksforGeeks interview experiences, IndiaBIX) for HCL-pattern practice
Cut-offs & eligibility (indicative)
HCLTech does not officially publish a cutoff; crowd-sourced/coaching sources commonly report a sectional cutoff of ~70% (roughly 11 of 15 per section) with NO negative marking, and the aptitude round is eliminatory. Treat the 70% sectional figure as indicative, not guaranteed. The firmer, published gate is the ELIGIBILITY bar: typically 60% throughout academics (10th/12th/graduation) on many standard drives, rising to 70% throughout for the 2026 AMP program (relaxed to 65% for the four New Vistas locations: Lucknow, Nagpur, Vijayawada, Madurai), with no active backlogs during the hiring process and gaps usually within 1-2 years.
